Shelter Savior Program

For our Shelter partners, we know that you are dealing with extremely tough cases and tough decisions. You are trying to find fosters, adopters, and/or rescue placement. For the tough cases, the dogs who truly need training and behavior management before going into a foster home, we are proud to offer the Shelter Savior Program.

Under the care of Shauna Lawson and Christy Griffin, the dog will stay at Sled & Breakfast in Fenton, MO where they both work full-time. Shauna and Christy will develop a plan and work with the dog to establish basic obedience and work through unwanted behaviors.

This program, while previously covered under a grant, is currently offered at a discounted rate of $1600. This covers one month of training, boarding, and supplies.

Once they determine that the dog is ready, we will post the dog as available for fostering or adoption.

As always, Spencer fosters and adopters receive lifetime free training support.

Our training approach is balanced, force-free.

Shauna Lawson

Shauna has over 12 years of experience in the training world. Prior to that, she volunteered for the Humane Society of MO and worked in a kennel environment.

Shauna joined Christy while training service dogs for veterans.

She continues her education with regular workshops, webinars, and conferences while also leading the Spencer Pet Rescue training program.

Shauna has raised puppies, placed service dogs, and handled multiple cases of aggression and fear-based issues.

She is passionate about working with dogs. Training should reflect a cooperative relationship built on trust, motivation, and intention.

Christy Griffin

Currently enrolled in the Canine Behavior College to come a Level 6 Clinical Animal Behaviorist.

Christy has been training dogs for 22 years and continues her education annually. Within those years, Christy spent 4 years working with shelter dogs and 5.5 years training service dogs for veterans.

She is passionate about the well-being of dogs - their minds, bodies, and spirits.
